People of Ndikelionwu Community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State have staged a peaceful protest, calling for the urgent intervention of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, in the traditional stool crisis in the town, in view of ensuring that the will of the people prevails in the process.

The community, in their large numbers,
protested at Community Secondary School, Ndikelionwu,

The President-General of the community, Mr. Edozie Obasi, during the protest, tried to present his own selected Eze-elect, Venerable Rex Kanu, members of the community were seen carrying placards with inscriptions such as, “Imposition Is Oppression, Hands Off Ndikelionwu Stool,” “We Did Not Choose Kanu, We Chose Barrister Ekeneme Ike; Certify the People’s Choice,” and “The People of Ndikelionwu Are Not Slaves; Certify Our Chosen Eze, Barrister Ekeneme Ike,” among others.

Speaking to journalists, the Secretary of Umu-Eze-Ikelionwu Royal Family, Prince Chimezie Mbaonu, explained that the royal family, which is in charge of producing the king in the community, on the 15th of March, 2026, during a meeting involving the seven families that make up the royal family, duly chose Barrister Ekeneme Ike as the Eze-elect of Ndikelionwu Community, noting that the communiqué and minutes of the meeting were duly signed by representatives of the seven families, and wondered why the President-General of the town came up with another candidate against the people’s choice.

Contributing, Chief of Obunagu Village, Ndikelionwu Town, Emmanuel Nwene, and Chairman of Izundu Age Grade, Ndikelionwu, Mr. Amaobi Okeke, stated that there is a need for urgent intervention by Governor Soludo, in the matter to avert bloodshed and preventable chaos in the community.

They suggested that Anambra state government can organize an election for the two candidates and allow the people to choose under a free and fair atmosphere for truth, peace, justice, and fairness to prevail.

Also speaking, the Vice President of Ndikelionwu Youth Movement and Youth Chairman of Nwobinikpa Village, Ndikelionwu, Comrade Nonso Okoli-Ijoma, on behalf of the youths of the town, expressed dismay over the action of the President-General.

The youth leader said the move is destroying the peace and image of the community, and appealed that the government should allow the will of the people to prevail, as, according to him, the imposition of an Eze on the people of Ndikelionwu will bring disunity and escalate the crisis.

Reacting to the issue, the Chairman
of Orumba North Local Government Area, Barrister Casmir Nwafor, advised both parties to sheathe their swords and embrace peace for progress and development in the area, assuring that his administration will look into the matter and write to the Anambra State Government based on reports he has received from both parties, and promised that the issue will soon be resolved in the interest of the people.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the President-General could not speak to the press at the time of filing this report, and during the presentation of the President-General’s selected Eze-elect, the majority of people of Ndikelionwu were restricted from entering the hall, as the PG reportedly used the military to prevent them from gaining access.
