In readiness for Anambra decides 2025, an internationally based non-profit making organization, ElectHER, in collaboration with Nigerian Women Trust Fund, NWTF Interventions, has deployed two hundred and twenty-six field observers across the twenty-one Council Areas of Anambra State.
This came to the fore during a joint stakeholders press briefing that gave birth to the official unveiling of the Gender Situation Room and presentation of Pre-Assessment Findings.
ElectHER, which focuses on advancing women’s political participation, economic empowerment and involvement in public life across Africa, made the unveiling with NWTF Interventions in Awka.
In her opening remark, the Chief Executive Officer, ElectHER, Ms Ibijoke Faborode, disclosed that Gender Situation Room, hosted under Component 5A of the EU-SDGN Programme, is aimed at undertaking a gender-responsive observation of the entire electoral process, beginning from pre-election, election day, and post-election leveraging on the election infrastructure of both organisations.
According to Ms Faborode, ElectHER Election Hub, and NWTF’s Gender and Election Watch room, GEW, will collectively host a joint Data Centre to ensure coordinated observation, analysis and rapid reporting throughout the election period.
Contributing, the NWTF Interventions Program Lead, Mrs Vaneza Udegbe-Gregory, stated their committement to deploy their flagship Gender and Election Watch, GEW, initiative as part of the EUSDGN-supported Election Observation Hub.
Mrs Udegbe-Gregory, explained that under this initiative, NWTF will deploy one hundred trained stationary observers across Anambra State, selected through a random sampling method to ensure representative coverage of communities by using GEW App that enables realtime submission, verification, and analysis of field data.
She added that with ten technical experts from diverse backgrounds, including the media, academia, civil society organisations, NWTF aims to promote credible, transparent, and inclusive elections where women, men, and other marginalized groups can participate freely and equally.
For the Programme Lead, Democracy and Governance, ElectHER, Ms Zigwai Tagwai, ElectHER Election Hub, for the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, will also deploy six collation observers across five LGA collation centers and the state collation center, recognizing the logistical challenges of covering over five thousand polling units, to ensure that observer representation reflects the demographic and geographic diversity of Anambra State.
