Anambra Education Commissioner Assures Principals Of Government Support

The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has assured secondary school principals across the state of the government’s full support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

Dr. Ogugua gave the assurance during an interactive session with principals and education directors held at the ASUBEB Utility Hall in Awka. He said the meeting was organised to acquaint himself with school administrators and outline the Soludo administration’s vision of building a first-class education system in Nigeria.

The Commissioner reaffirmed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to improving education and equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century. He also reiterated the importance of the state’s free education policy, warning principals against any actions that could undermine its implementation, while urging them to prioritise the safety of students and school property.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, congratulated Dr. Ogugua on his appointment and pledged the Board’s support towards achieving the government’s education objectives.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Mrs. Benedine Anagor, described principals as critical drivers of government policies and assured the Commissioner of their cooperation.

During the interactive session, several principals identified major challenges facing their schools, including insecurity, lack of perimeter fencing, shortage of teachers, inadequate classrooms, non-functional computer systems, and the need for additional school buses.

Responding, Dr. Ogugua assured them that their concerns would be presented to Governor Soludo, expressing confidence in the administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges and further strengthening the state’s education sector.
