Anambra state government has begun marking of roads with double yellow lines in Onitsha.
ANN reports that Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, in line with the directive by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure that roads are properly marked to enable free flow of human and vehicular movement were seen marking double yellow lines which indicates areas where vehicles are prohibited from parking, picking, or dropping off passengers.
The Managing Director of ARTMA, Engr. Emeka Okonkwo In an interview at the Bridge Head axis of Onitsha said the motive of the exercise is to decongest Anambra roads especially as the yuletide approaches.
Okonkwo said the agency has made alternative parks where commercial vehicles and tricycles can park, pick up, and drop off passengers, pointing out that proper road signs will be installed as well to aid road users.
Also speaking, the General Manager ARTMA, Mr. Chidi Umezinwa said the agency will embark on an additional seven days of intensive sensitization to ensure every road user understands the meaning of the double yellow lines and road signs.
They warned that defaulters of the road signs would be penalized.
