Anambra Govt Calls For More Partnership On Recycling Of Plastics

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) Mr. Mike Ozoemena said the state government is willing to partner with both public and private sectors who has the capacity to work in the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo as regards recycling of plastics.

Mr. Ozoemena while speaking with reporters on Monday August 28 after appearing before Anambra state house of assembly committee on public accounts chaired by Rt. Hon. Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe.

Ozoemenam maintained that ASWAMA will continue to work in the best interest of ndi Anambra.

According to Ozoemenam “Alot of company has shown interest and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology are bringing equipments soon (this week) and once they come, we commence.

“We are ready to partner with anyone who has capacity because the government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo does not encourage waste.

“We are pleading with ndi-Anambra to have waste bin so that they can sort it themselves and make money. Plastics should be recycled and not end up of dump sites.

” Waste can be useful because they can be decomposed, converted to fertilizer and soil improver.

“There are waste management committees in all the 21 local governments areas of the state which consists of Transition Committee (TC) Chairmen as the head, chancellors and ASWAMA.

“The creation of this committees was necessary so as to improve efficiency.

” Their have been alot of improvements after the creation of the communities because someone can’t be in Awka and be cleaning another location like Ayamelum or Ogbaru, when we have TC Chairmen and chancellors there.

“The are improvement in Awka, the state capital especially the Eke Awka market areas. If you go there you will notice that ASWAMA is curbing dumping of refuse at roads side”.

The ASWAMA boss also assured that the dump site at owerre road in Onitsha will be removed soon.
