The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has congratulated the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Phd.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Dr. Mefor in a Press release, assured the NUJ executives of its supporters and partnership.
“On behalf of the Anambra State Government, I warmly congratulate Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and his team on their well-deserved victory in the recent NUJ Anambra Council elections. Your re-election is a testament to your leadership and dedication to the union.
“As you begin your new term, I urge you to extend a hand of fellowship to all members, healing any wounds that may have arisen during the electioneering process. Unity and cohesion are essential for the council’s growth and prosperity.
“The Anambra State Government looks forward to continued collaboration and fair reporting of our activities. We are committed to maintaining a cordial relationship with the NUJ and promoting a free and independent press.
“Once again, congratulations to Dr. Odogwu and his team. We wish you a successful tenure and look forward to working with you.
ANN recall that Odogwu was re-elected as the Chairman, NUJ, Anambra State Council in an election held on Friday at the Godwin Ezemo International Press Center, Awka.Â
Dr. Odogwu polled 173 votes to defeat his opponent, Comrade Ngozi Obileri who got 40 votes cast.
Also, Mr. Chibuzo Obidike of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Chapel of the Union who was elected Treasurer, polled 168 votes to defeat the incumbent, Comrade Ogemdi Ozoemena, who got 45 votes cast.
Other elected NUJ executives include, Dr Okey Onuegbu (Secretary), Mrs Chinyere Ogbuagu (Assistant Secretary) and Comrade Grace Onwukwe (Financial Secretary), who were returned unopposed.
