Anambra Govt Demolishes Remaining Storey Buildings In Ochanja Market

Anambra State government has demolished the two remaining three-storey buildings at Ọdụ Igbo section in Ochanja market, Onitsha South Council Area.

Angel Network News (ANN) recall that during his visit to the scene of the unfortunate incident, Governor Chukwuma Soludo gave the directive for the removal of the remaining structures, after three out of the five ongoing three-storey buildings in the market collapsed and left fatalities.

Since the incident occured on Monday, Governor Soludo-led administration has continued to demomstrate empathy, as government officials continue to work on the scene to ensure that the directive of the Governor is fully implemented.

Relevant government agencies and structural engineers have variously embarked on inspection of the structures to assess the condition of the building and it was discovered that the building poses an imminent danger to public safety.

Heavy machinery, including excavators and bulldozers were deployed to bring down the buildings safely.

The demolition of the buildings became imperative because they were being erected without approval from relevant approval agency.

After clearing the debris at the developer’s cost, the location will be left vacant and repurposed for other uses.
