Anambra Govt Empowers Beggar Caught During Raid

Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo has empowered Miss Ifeoma Chukwu, a native of Otolo Nnewi, financially.

ANN reports that Miss Chukwu was one of the beggars caught during the raid which took place in Awka, the state capital, last Wednesday.

The financial support given to the beggar is part of the ministry’s mandate to ensure that vulnerable beggars caught in the streets are empowered to start up some businesses.

Handing over the cash to the physically challenged beggar, Obinabo, who stated that the support came from the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, advised her to make good use of the money given to her.

The Women Affairs and Social Welfare commissioner used the medium to warn Miss Chukwu that if she was caught again in the street begging, she would be charged to court.

Appreciating the Governor’s wife and the Commissioner, Miss Chukwu promised to use the fund judiciously to better her life.
