Anambra Chairman of Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu on behalf of the State government flagged off the leadership training for newly selected prefects of secondary schools in the state for the 2022/2023 academic session.
ANN reports that the training jointly organized by the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC and the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB was held at Christ the King College, Onitsha.

Prof Ikediugwu explained that leadership is all about service and inspiring people, stressing that the main duty of a prefect is to maintain an atmosphere of friendly co-operation, peace, discipline and unity in the school.
She appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo who she said prioritized education from the inception of his administration and the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chumah-Udeh for her tireless efforts towards issues that concern education.
In her keynote address, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi said the leadership training which has become an annual mandatory programme is designed to inculcate the spirit of leadership and selfless service to mankind in the students to prepare them for their immediate roles as prefects and leaders of students in their various schools and the challenges they will encounter as leaders of tomorrow.
Dr Nwadinobi informed the gathering of Governor Soludo’s passion for child education and his plans and huge investments in basic education in Anambra State.
The principal of the Christ the King College, Onitsha, Dr Arinze Okafor in his welcome address, charged the prefects not to take for granted the confidence and trust reposed in them by the school authority and students.

For the Zonal Director of Education of PPSSC, Onitsha Zone, Lady Josephine Igboanusi, for one to be a good leader tomorrow, one must be a good follower today, saying that this underscores the essence of the leadership training programme targeted at proper positioning of future leaders and creating leadership for a positive change.
In a lead paper presentation, the Registrar, Archibishop Charles Heerey College of Health Sciences and Technology, Nkpor, Dr Christian Ilouno, speaking on the topic “Leadership for positive change”, said that it is his believe that the leadership training emanates from the burden of systemic failure that negative leadership pattern has brought to Nigeria.
In an interview some of the prefects, Chidiogo Ojukwu from Saint JohnBosco Secondary School, Unubi and Chinemerem Ezeifeoma from Modebe Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha, they will apply lessons learnt in bringing empathetic leadership to their fellow students.
