Anambra Gov’t Moves To Tackle Nkpor Flood, Erosion Crisis

Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Architect Okey Ezeobi has moved to assess the worsening flooding and erosion challenges in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, following the devastating impact of a recent heavy downpour.

The Commissioner alongside the local government chairman of Idemili North, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, were on an spot assessment of affected areas, including the Nkpor Umoji axis, Umusiome and Ububa Uno.

The team inspected the extent of damage to roads, drainage channels and surrounding properties, with the Commissioner assuring residents that the State Government would pursue immediate palliative measures and a lasting solution to the recurring flooding and erosion.

Although the inspection was suspended before all affected areas could be covered, Ezeobi assured residents that the team would return to complete the assessment and determine the appropriate interventions.

The Commissioner also warned against developments that violate approved structural and environmental plans, noting that indiscriminate construction and obstruction of waterways could worsen flooding.
