Anambra government has expressed concerns over the unregulated and frudelent activities of the real estate developers and agents in the State.
The Commissioner for Housing Anambra State, Hon Pauly Onyeka raised the serious concern when the Executives of Awka Estate Agent Association paid him a courtesy visit at his Jerome Udorji Secretariat office complex Awka
The Commissioner while condemning the
frudelent activities maintained that the
Ministry of Housing is set to create an enforcement team that would checkmate their operations in the State.
According to Onyeka, several developers acquire lands from communities only to resell at exorbitant prices without fulfilling their financial obligations to the original landonwers
“Many people now are involved in the business of estate agency and land speculation with the aim of defrauding people, in most cases this has led to hikes in house rent and prices buildings” the Commissioner said.
Hon. Onyeka explained that this unchecked behavior has led to widespread fraud and caused disappointment and disenchantment especially among ndi Anambra in diaspora who invest in these land with hope that their properties will appreciate within few years, instead they return to discover that the land remained undeveloped
The Commissioner noted that the situation is critical as any one can now pose as an estate developer or agents increasing land speculation and frudelent sales that puts the public at risk of losing their hard earned money .
He said to address these, Ministry of Housing is setting up a dedicated enforcement team to regulate real estate operators through intensive public public sensitization via the radio and social media as the year draws to an end urging citizen to stay vigilant .
In his remarks the chairman of the association Mr Nnamah Izuchukwu expressed application for the government’s efforts and pledged full cooperation in identifying and eliminating bad actors within the industry .
