Anambra Govt Reaffirms Commitment To Sports Development

The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, says the Professor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration is intentional about harnessing young sports talents and developing the sector.

Dr. Ibezim stated this at the Umuchu Mini Stadium, during the finals of the 2026 Aguata Easter Football Tournament, where the Ekwulobia team defeated the Igbo-Ukwu team by one goal to emerge winners.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the highly anticipated final match between Igboukwu and Ekwulobia lived up to expectations, as spectators were treated to an exciting display of skill, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

The Deputy Governor, who praised the talents displayed by the players, commended the Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, for organizing the tournament, describing it as a platform for discovering young talents and promoting unity within the council area, and noted that such initiatives align with the agenda of the Soludo administration and should be replicated across the state.

Ibezim commended the quality of the Umuchu Mini Stadium pitch, describing it as standard and conducive for talent development.

“The Mayor has proven to be a square peg in a square hole. While others are celebrating Easter in different ways, he is here harnessing talents, entertaining both the young and old, and engaging them meaningfully. This is highly commendable,” the Deputy Governor stated.

Aguata Mayor, Dr. Ofobuike while speaking, expressed satisfaction with the success of the tournament and advised youths to channel their energy into meaningful ventures, urging them to shun crime and other activities that could endanger their future.

“This is the 2026 Agubata Easter Football Tournament final, and we are delighted to have the presence of the Deputy Governor and our traditional institutions.

” It is a moment of joy as our people come together, not just to celebrate Easter, but to encourage our youths and give them an opportunity to excel,” the local government Chairman said.
