Anambra State government has commence the renovation of Igboukwu Museum in Aguata Local Government Area
The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Hon. Don Onyenji, Speaking on the state of the Igboukwu Museum, said that its renovation is a welcome development that will attract both local and international tourists, researchers and scholars to the state.
Hon. Onyenji noted that Anambra has a rich cultural heritage, and that the Igboukwu Museum is a repository of stories, as well as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding cultural treasures for the future generations.
Commissioner Onyenji thanked Governor Soludo for his interest and approval for the upgrade of the Igboukwu Museum, and commended him for approving the Arts and Crafts Exhibition held in October 2023, during which the Governor also patronized some of the exhibitors with millions of naira; as a way of encouraging people in the visual and creative arts industry.
He announced that he will soon continue his official visits to privately-owned museums in the state, and appreciated people like the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, for their interests in promoting Museums.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Commissioner revealed that the renovation will transform it into a world-class magnetic hub for tourists, scholars and researchers.
“Like this year’s International Museum Day theme; “Museums for Education and Research,” the Igboukwu Museum, on completion, will be a static repository of artifacts for research purposes and a dynamic classroom where history breathes and curiosity thrives”. Onyenji said
