Anambra Govt Tasks Residents, Traders On Environmental Cleanliness

Anambra State Committee on Clean and Green Awka has organised a road show to sensitize residents and traders on proper waste disposal.

The exercise tagged “Dobe Awka OCHA” commenced from Amaenyi market to Eke Awka and Amawbia.

Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim while addressing residents and traders at Eke roundabout, warned that the Soludo administration will no longer tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse at the market and environs, warning that ACTDA officials have been empowered to activate enforcement.

Ibezim assured that government will continue to do its own part for the good of the people, adding that keeping the environment clean should not be only on monthly sanitation days.

In his remarks after the exercise, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko, said the “Dobe Awka OCHA” exercise is line with the state government’s objective to make Anambra clean and green through proper waste disposal; starting from the capital city and is meant to promote healthy living through environmental cleanliness.

Mr. Onuko, who also chairs the Anambra State Committee on Clean and Green Awka, emphasized that government has continued to do its part by providing waste bins at strategic positions, adding that the gains of environmental cleanliness are enormous, including healthy living.

While thanking the state government on efforts to keep Awka capital and environs clean, Eke Awka market leader, Mrs Chinwe Ezeigwe, promised to support the exercise by setting up a taskforce to monitor and enforce compliance, even as she appealed to the government to provide more waste bins at strategic locations to encourage proper waste disposal.
