Anambra Govt To Build Housing Units For Civil Servants

The Commissioner for Housing, Hon Pauly Onyeka says Anambra State Government is planning on building ten thousand (10,000) Housing Units for civil servants in the state at Isiagu in Awka South council area of the state.

Hon. Onyeka stated this on Tuesday during the 2026 budget defense and bilateral discussions in Awka.

According to Onyeka, the project will be executed under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangement with real estate developers.

The Commissioner revealed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo had given approval of the project long time ago, but was truncated by last minute hindrance which has been resolved.

While maintaining that the 10,000 low-cost housing units will soon be a reality, the Housing Commissioner said the project which he described as “very well structured plan”, will improve the housing scheme of civil servants and low-income earners.

” There was a little issues which have been sorted out with the private sector undertaking the PPP arrangement. Now that the dry season is off, we will take off and that will be history.”

“Mr Governor’s philosophy has changed a lot of things starting with road infrastructure that opens up estates by real estate developers in the hinterland. This is geared towards bettering the aspect of housing deficit in Anambra state.”

He said his ministry being a service Ministry that possess technical knowhow, handles building infrastructure even when such projects are domiciled in other ministries, departments and agencies of government.

Such projects executed within the outgoing fiscal year include upgrade of the Ekwueme Square, Commissioners Quarters, construction of Trauma Centre at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka, among others.

“Our obligation and tasks transcend the few things you see under the Ministry of Housing even when the building projects are domiciled under other MDAs, we execute them.”

“We are not only here to perform the annual ritual of appearing before the House Committee on Appropriation, but also to let the world know what we have done with the fund alloted to us.

“You need to give account of your stewardship, how prudent your ministry had been and how you have been working in partnership with the mandate, philosophy and mantra of the state government,” Hon Onyeka concluded.
