Anambra Govt To Upgrade COOUTH To Standard Teaching Hospital

The Commissioner for Health; Dr. Afam Obidike has stated that all the necessary arrangements have been concluded in order to upgrade Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka to a standard teaching hospital.

Dr. Obidike made this known during a management meeting with the Chief Medical Director and Heads of Departments of the hospital in Awka.

The Commissioner informed them that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda in healthcare is to transform all the government healthcare centers for optimal service delivery to the people as well as to achieve a universal health coverage for all.

He explained that the current administration in the state in two years has employed no fewer than 1000 healthcare workers at primary and secondary hospitals, renovated and equipped three general hospitals and currently building five new General Hospitals in Anambra North Senatorial Zone.

According to the Health Commissioner, Governor Soludo is renovating and equipping Primary healthcare centers while the provision of pipe borne water across the state is also ongoing.

Dr. Obidike maintained that Governor Soludo is very much interested in transforming COOUTH to be one of the best Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria, and that the goal of their administration is to ensure that people who seek healthcare receive better services at all times.

He thanked the management and staff of the hospital for the huge sacrifice they are making in the healthcare delivery in the state,

The Chief Medical Director of COOUTH, Dr. Joe Akabuike thanked the Governor for his support and assured him of their full commitment in discharging their duties.
