The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, Anambra State has distribut
livelihood support to eight hundred and forty persons.
The distribution exercise, which was carried out in Umueze-Anam, Umuenwelum, Ifite-Anam and Olumbanasa Communities, all in Anambra West Local Government Area, included Rice seeds, Potato stems, Groundnut, Pepper, Water melon seeds, and Cucumber while community stakeholders received fully constructed football goal post and volleyball court, Ncho, Footballs, Volleyball and whistle for their relaxation.
Speaking at the various locations, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo, appreciated UNICEF and stated that the livelihood support is a way of helping them bounce back from the 2022 flood disaster and charged them to make judicious use of the items.
Obinabo, represented by the Director, Child’s Department in the ministry, Mrs. Ekene Aniesona, urged the women and community stakeholders to ensure the safety of all the gaming facilities and take ownership of them.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Messers. Uzochukwu Chinwuba from Umueze-Anam, Gloria Egbede from Umuenwelum Community, Obeche Ekemma from Igwedor Quarters of Olumbanasa and Elizabeth Okoye from Ifite- Anam, appreciated UNICEF and the state government for remembering them, even as they lauded the doggedness of Honourable Obinabo in ensuring that the crops were judiciously distributed.
