Anambra State Government has unveiled
ICT Innovation Centre established in honour of a late tech enthusiast Mr. Anthony Okechukwu whose passion for digital advancement continues to inspire a new generation.
In his address, Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim highlighted the importance of impact driven living.
Dr. Ibezim noted that true legacy is defined not by longevity but by meaningful contributions to society.
The Deputy Governor further observed that Awka is undergoing significant transformation under the current administration, pointing to ongoing infrastructural developments, including the 57 structures in Government House, a project he described as a landmark and unprecedented.
Dr. Ibezim reaffirmed the state government’s commitment, under Governor Soludo’s leadership, to positioning Anambra as a leading destination for technology and innovation in Nigeria.
“Life is not about how long one lives, but how well one lives. We are remembered by the good we do. This centre stands as a testament to a life well lived and a vision that continues to inspire,” he stated.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Director of the Anthony ICT Innovation Centre, Mrs. Chioma Okechukwu Uba, sister to the late Anthony Okechukwu,
described the ICT edifice as both a statement and a promise to immortalize their late brother, whose vision and commitment to technology, youth empowerment, and the development of Anambra State remain enduring.
According to Uba, the late honouree was deeply passionate about technology and strongly believed in the potential of Africa, Nigeria, and particularly Awka, as a hub for innovation.
“The Anthony ICT Innovation Centre is designed as a space for learning and collaboration. It is a place where digital skills can be acquired within minutes, where innovation is nurtured, and where young people can plug into opportunities that will shape their future,” she said.
Mrs. Okechukwu Uba expressed optimism that the centre would serve as a catalyst for accelerating the state’s technological advancement, urging youths in Awka and beyond to take full advantage of the opportunities it offers.
Also, speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation, Miss Chinwe Okoli, emphasized that technology has taken centre stage in Anambra State’s development under the Soludo led administration.
Okoli noted that the success of the tech ecosystem in the state depends largely on strategic partnerships such as the one demonstrated through the establishment of the centre.
“With over 3,000 young people already engaged in various digital initiatives across the state, this centre marks the 20th digital hub recorded since the inception of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration. It reflects our commitment to building a sustainable tech driven economy,” she said.
Senator Ben Ndi-Obi and Prof. A.U. Nnonyelu, in their separate speeches, expressed excitement and hope that the new centre would open up greater opportunities for digital empowerment and economic growth in the state.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the event attracted stakeholders, youths, and tech enthusiasts.
