Anambra State government has urged tricycle operators popularly known as “Keke drivers” to comply with traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety on the roads.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike gave the charge while addressing Keke operators in her office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Igwebuike said the Ministry will organise a training for them to educate them properly on traffic matters and the need for them to be conscious of their safety and that of other road users.
The Commissioner explained that the Ministry will issue Rider’s permit for Keke operators and commercial motorcyclists, adding that it will assist them to maintain orderliness in the activities of the Operators.
The commisioner further said that government has made provision for their health insurance even as she advised them to avail themselves of the opportunity.
Mrs Igwebuike emphasized the need for them to obtain their plate numbers from the Vehicle Inspection Office or Local Government in order to ensure that they obtain genuine numbers.
Some of the Keke operators, Mr. Kingsley Igwe and Mr. Emmanuel Okafor commended the efforts of the government and promised to be law abiding citizens.
