The chairman Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) Dr. Greg Ezeilo says the first objective of the agency is to make sure that every month, there is an adequate funding generated internally to be able to aid the projects and programs of government.
Ezeilo while speaking with newsmen after appearing before Anambra State house of assembly committee on public accounts chaired by Hon. Nobel Igwe, said there is no system or entity that can function properly with targeted productivity without funding.
According to the AiRS Chairman ” We are in an era of scarce resources both from the federal government and it is a time for states to look inward and generate their own revenue and if you look around the Anambra state you will notice that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo is doing his best to put infrastructure in-place.
” In the month of May, the revenue generated was 2.077 billion before cost of collection after cost of collection, it went down to 1.8 billion and the governor was not happy about that.
” When i took over in June, i discovered alot of loop holes and I decided to block those holes and we got up to 2.336 and after cost, we still remained at 2.1.billion.
” In July we got 2.8 billion and after cost, it was 2.5 billion which gives an indication that the future is bright in times of IGR in Anambra state because we have not exploited what we have.
” We are developing models because i believe that with technologies we can drive our revenue to the highest peak that we want to achieve.
“Very soon we should be engage the entire motor parks in Anambra state. We have maped out one that is going to be the model and as soon as it starts working, the touts will give way.
” The markets and other avenues will be explioted and once we put them into production then we can sit back and develop it.
” Am a professional to the core and the workings are not new to me. I have worked at the federal level (Public accounts with House of reps), and as the chairman, i found out that some of my workers need to be trained and as the head, i will put everyone on the same boat”. Ezeilo declared.
