Anambra Lawmaker Dumps PDP, Returns To APGA

The member representing Anambra East constituency at the state assembly, Rt. Hon. Obinna Emeneka, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Anambra Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, on Tuesday plenary, read a letter by Emeneka notifying the house of his return to his former party APGA.

Majority leader and member representing Njikoka 2 constituency, Hon. Pete Ibida while welcoming back Emeneka to APGA, stated that the contributions of the lawmaker were greatly missed and that he was expecting more lawmakers who had left the party to have a re-think and return.

Minority leader and member representing Ekwusigo constituency, Rt. Hon. Onyebuchi Offor

stated that Emeneka never informed the house of his resignation from APGA in plenary. He, however, wished him well in his political endeavours.

Rt. Hon. Emeneka, who is the chairman, house committee on Finance and Appropriation, while speaking on his return to APGA said he notified the house of his defection through writing and he was also using same medium to notify of his return. 

“The documents are there when i notified the house and today i have equally written again. I followed due process. I am coming back to APGA to continue to support the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo because we all have a collective effort of moving Anambra to greater heights. I went for an assignment and I’m back. 

The member representing Onitsha North 2 constituency, Hon. Edward Ibuzor said he was happy on the return of Emeneka back to APGA. 

“That is a wonderful choice and a good move because APGA is our home and party. I’m encouraging our colleagues and also incoming lawmakers of the 8th assembly to join APGA”. Ibuzor submitted. 

The speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, thanked the lawmakers for the love and understanding despite the political differences. He wished Emeneka well as he re-joined APGA.

Speaking to reporters after plenary, the member representing Ogbaru 1 constituency Hon. Nobel Igwe while reacting on the defection of Emeneka said, “Political party is a choice. I can’t hold him back to PDP. Everyone knows the party that suits him. He was of APGA before, later decided to join PDP and now has gone back to his original party. I have no ill-feelings about it”. Igwe submitted.
