Anambra Lawmakers Calls For Reorientation Of Youths On Skills Acquisition

Anambra State House of Assembly has called on parents, religious institutions and town unions to emback on reorientation of youths, to embrace more laudable program; ‘one youth, two skills’ initiated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other formal and in-formal skill acquisition windows available in the state as a quicker way of creating jobs for citizens.

Hon. Ejike Okechukwu who is the chief sponsor of the motion through order ten ‘rule fourty-four’ of the house, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo initiated a laudable program ‘one youth, two skills’ aimed at empowering youths to be self employed. 

Hon. Okechukwu, the member representing Anaocha two constituency in his submissions maintained that the first face of the program has been completed and the beneficiaries waiting to be empowered very soon.

In his words ” Their are other numerous skill acquasition windows available in the state waiting for youths to exploit like apprenticeship and trading. 

” Governor Soludo is always willing to support any program that is capable of putting food on the table of ndi Anambra. 

” If youths are sensitized enough by the parents, religious body and town unions to embrace the ‘one youth, two skill’ program by Mr. governor, the rate of unemployment will be reduced to the barest minimum. 

” The youths of today no longer want to go for apprenticeship, they prefer to do yahoo-yahoo, join fast lane of leave today, die tomorrow. 

“This is a clarion call to our people and us all to go back to those days when we use to promote hardwork. We are not known for laziness. 

” If every youth in Anambra state acquires two skills, there is no way such person can die of hunger”. Hon. Okechukwu concluded.

Speaking in favour of the motion, the Chief Whip Hon. Jude Ngobili, Hon. Tony Moubuike, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, Hon. Anayo Okpkalaeke, Hon. Chidi Ibemeka and Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu urged all to join in the crusade.

” The major problem facing our youths is mis-orientation. They have learn the idea of get rich quick and going through the fast lane. 

“Our people are known for commerce, industry and hardwork which is why ndi Igbo are successful and recognized all over the world and here in Nigeria, Anambra state is the pride of the eastern states.

” We the parents should give our children the orientation from their young age. 

“Governor Soludo needs to be commended because the ‘one youth, two skills’ has gone a long way in empowering those who submitted themselves to be creative. 

” Some of the graduates we have now are not unemployable and the get rich quick syndrome has become the trend in our society. 

“Skill acquisition is fundamental. For the society to have a better future, we all need to play our part”. The legislators submitted.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze on his part, commended the chief sponsor of the motion. 

According to the Udeze, “The reorientation of the youths is everybodies business and as parents and lawmakers, we all will take the message down to our constituencies”.
