Anambra Local Govt Election: Anago Emerges Awka North, APGA Chairmanship Candidate

The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Hon. ThankGod Anago has emerged the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming September 28 Anambra State.

This was the outcome of the Awka North APGA primary election held in the 14 political wards in the council area where Mr Anago was returned to represent the party in the forthcoming election through the massive vote of members of the party, after other Chairmanship Aspirants willingly stepped down for him.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
while declaring the election results in their various wards, the Returning Officer for Mgbakwu Ward, Chief Amaechi Obiesili and his Urum counterpart, Mr Alex Nnanwude who among other returning officers in the fourteen wards, as well as officials of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission and State Security Service, DSS, ensured that the election process in the LGA was peaceful, free and fair, commended the party members for their comportment during the election.

In Achalla wards one, two, three, Mr Anago got 365, 360, and 325 votes respectively, and at Mgbakwu, Isuaniocha, Urum, Amanuke, and Amansea wards, he respectively got 388, 206, 397, 213, and 242 votes.

Mr Anago got 304, 350, 370, 400, and 360 votes at Ugbenu, Ugbene, Awba Ofemili, Ebenebe one and two wards respectively.

ANN gatheredthat Comrades Innocent Ikegbunam of Mgbakwu ward, Emmanuel Nnonyelum of Urum ward, Richard Jidendu of Isuaniocha ward, Nelson Achebe of Amanuke ward, John Nwafor of Achalla ward one, Emmanuel Chima of Achalla ward two, Ann Ekemezie of Achalla ward three, Michael Ekemezie of Amansea ward, Blessing Chidume of Ugbenu ward, Anthony Ndife of Ugbene ward, Kingsley Nwanelo of Awba Ofemili ward, Ferdinand Nnamso and Ikenna Anyanwu of Ebenebe ward one and two, emerged the party’s Councilorship candidates in their various wards for the Local Government Area election.

APGA chieftain in Awka North, Chief Lawrence Onwuka, the Local Government APGA Chairman, Mr James Onwuka, a stakeholder of the party in Urum community, Chief David Nwankwo, President General of Mgbakwu community, Mr Nwokeoma Chukwu, expressed happiness witj the turnout of the election, saying that the party leadership and members in the area have trust in the elected candidates, and expressed optimism that Awka North APGA will have a landslide victory in the Local Government election.

One of Awka North APGA Chairmanship Aspirants in the September 28 Local Government election, Comrade Matthew Ekwoanya who stepped down for Mr Anago, described Mr Anago as the best man for the job following his numerous achievements for the council area within the short time he has been piloting the affairs of the LGA as TC Chairman, saying that Mr Anago will perform better if elected as the executive chairman, hence his decision to quit the race for him.

In a speech, Mr Anago thanked the leadership and members of the party for believing in him, and assured them that he will not disappoint them, even as he appealed to Ndi Awka North to vote for him during the forthcoming election, as he will continue to prioritize their interests in his leadership if elected as the Executive Chairman of the council area.
