Anambra Monarch Calls For Transparency In Governorship Polls

Igwe Dr. Benjamin Okeji has urged the new Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to use the Anambra State election as a test case to prove his mettle in other forth coming elections in Nigeria.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Igwe Okeji who is the Deputy Chairman Anambra State Traditional rulers Council and Chairman Anambra North Traditional rulers Council expressed confidence that INEC will assert its true independence under its National Chairman Amupitan (SAN).

Igwe Okeji gave the indication in a press statement in Awka. Okeji urged Amupitan to rewrite history through his appointment by wiping some negative insinuations about the commission in some controversial verdicts okayed by the Commission in some previous elections in Nigeria.

According to the Monarch, the Anambra State governorship election being his first national assignment as INEC boss, should be held sacrosanct.

Igwe Okeji used the forum to acknowledge the peace pact endorsed by various political parties in the International Convention Centre Awka for a peaceful conduct during the election and urged them to abide by the terms of the peace accord.

The traditional ruler further enjoined the State Resident INEC Commissioner Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu to ensure that the Anambra election will be a reference point in Nigeria.

He further welcomed the DIG in charge of Operations in the Force headquarters Abuja Benjamin Okolo representing the Inspector General of Police to the state and urged the Police force and other security agencies in the state to work assiduously for a peaceful election in the state.
