Anambra Monarch Emphasizs On Importance Of Measles-Rubella Vaccination

The Chairman, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH, Igwe Chidi Ezenwugo has urged Ndi Aguata to allow their children to be vaccinated.

Speaking at the Aguata stakeholders sensitization meeting on Measles and Rubella Immunization at the Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCH), Aguata LGA Secretariat, Igwe Ezenwugo ably represented by the Traditional Ruler of Igboukwu, Igwe Alex Ejikemeuwa Azike, commended the Anambra State Government for the proposed immunization roll out which is to take place across Aguata and the State in general.

The Monarch encouraged ndi Aguata to support government programmes and key into the immunization programme for their own benefit.

“The Anambra State Government meant well for us. The vaccine will benefit our children, so give your consent for them to be vaccinated and also spread the news of the proposed immunisation in your wards.”

In her address, the Supervisor for Health in Aguata LGA, Hon. Joy Orah expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government for sponsoring the proposed immunization programme in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Orah emphasized the safety of the immunization and encouraged the stakeholders to ensure that the message reaches all the nooks and crannies of the LGA.

According to the Social Mobilization Officer in the LGA, Mrs Happiness Arinze, Measles and Rubella are highly contagious and deadly but can be prevented with immunization.

Arinze said the immunization will take place across Aguata LGA from February 4th to February 15th 2026 in schools, churches, Public Health Centres (PHCs) and other strategic locations.

She noted further that the vaccine is completely safe for children and effective against Measles and Rubella infections.
She said that those eligible to be immunized are children aged 9 months to 14 years.
