Anambra Moves To Actualize Open Government Participation Plan

Anambra state government has re-assured its commitment to Open Government Participation (OGP) in achieving critical objectives of the Professor Chukwuma Soludo administration.

Commissioner For Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake while speaking during the opening segment of a two day Technical Session For Development Of Anambra State Open Government Participation, Second Action Plan (SAP 2), maintained that the goal is to fosters a collaborative relationship between the government and non-governmental entities.

The Budget Commissioner noted that before now, Anambra State embraced OGP and has continued to ensure that the core principles of the process is upheld which is evident through the various measures put in place to ensure a livable and prosperous state such as quarterly town hall meeting with governor, existence of the Bureau of public procurement, continued involvement of citizens in budget process and many more.

Open Government Participation stands as one of the most promising and inclusive reform initiative and intentional multi-stakeholder movement focused on enhancing transparency, accountability, citizenship participation and responsiveness through the application of technology and innovation.

A representative from OGP Secretariat, Abuja, Mr Uche Arisiukwu commended Anambra State Government for its intentionality, deliberations and sustained efforts on OGP programme, stating that such commitment have not been seen anywhere as Anambra funded 95% of the programme and therefore saluted the Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his political will, supportive and investments. 

Mr Arisiukwu stated that they should internalize the gap left during state action plan one to the plan two calling for inclusiveness, participation and impact. 

The State OGP focal person, Mrs Oggorchukwu Orji disclosed that the second plan of the programme was to bring state and non-state actors together, partner with them for the development of the Solution agenda in the state and as a new government with priorities, they need to focus and be committed to achieving the desired goals and pointed out that those things they failed to achieve from SAP One will be carried over as government is a process.

ANN reports that the event attracted participants from different ministries, departments and agencies, leaders of various communities in the state, non-state actors and non-governmental organizations.
