…Madu takes over town union leadership
The newly elected Ugbenu Town Union Executives, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have been inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the community for the next four years.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the President General of Ugbenu, Chief Ephraim Madu and his executives, emerged winners in the town union’s January 6 election.
In his address, Chief Ephraim Madu, thanked the people of Ugbenu for the confidence reposed in them and promised to run an all-inclusive administration where everyone will be carried along, irrespective of village or social status.
The new President General disclosed that some of the major projects of his administration include the provision of a functional Ugbenu constitution, construction of a civic centre, and a central traditional ruler’s palace.
Chief Madu also inaugurated a constitution drafting committee and assured that the constitution would be ready by October this year.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Reverend Felix Ekeh, and the Traditional Prime Minister of Ugbenu, Chief Jude Okolo, congratulated the executives on their victory and urged them to uphold fairness, integrity, and transparency, while eschewing nepotism and selfishness in their leadership in order to drive meaningful development and progress in the community.
Some stakeholders of the town, including the National Vice Chairman of Ugbenu Diaba Concerned Citizens in the Diaspora, Chief Onyeoma Nweke; the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka North Local Government Area, Mr. James Onwuka; the immediate past President General of the town, Mr. Sampson Ojo-Nwankwo; Engineer Chidiebele Uwabunkeonye; and Chief Chukwuemeka Uwabunkeonye, thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for ensuring a peaceful election in the town through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Affairs, and advised the new executives to carry everyone along and sustain peace and unity in the community, describing them as essential tools for moving Ugbenu forward.
