Two sons of the Nsugbe community in Anambra East Council Area murdered by some persons alleged to be from Nneyi-Umueri in an inter-communal conflict were committed to mother earth.
Angel Network News reports that Late Mr Chukwura Nweze, aged 53 and Prince Gozie Anyansi aged 36 were indegenes of Enugwu village, Nsugbe before they were attacked and killed on 22nd November, 2023 following a land dispute between Enugwu village, Nsugbe and Nneyi Umueri .
It was gathered that some youths from Nneyi-Umueri reportedly invaded Enugwu village Nsugbe destroying structures and razed down buildings standing on their way while laying ambush for Ndi Nsugbe.Â
It was, allegedly, at this point that the deceased drove past and were shot at directly without any provocation. The remains of the deceased were received by youths and elders of the community.
A burial service and mass were conducted in their various churches, where a visiting priest at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Nsugbe, Reverend Father Boniface Okafor said that death is the end of every mortal no matter how it comes, asking the families to take solace in God for him alone can judge any matter or challenge they encounter.Â
On the other hand, the Anambra East Zonal Superintendent Of Foursquare Gospel Church Nsugbe, Pastor Godswill Ubochi asked everyone to be ready for the second coming of Jesus Christ as they do not know when or how it will happen, saying that though the deceased died a painful death, he is hopeful that they are in a better place.Â
Pastor Ubochi, however, called on Ndi Nsugbe to ensure that justice prevails.Â
Sympathizing with Ndi Nsugbe and families of the deceased, the Senator representing Anambra North senatorial district, Dr Tony Nwoye who is also an indigene of the community, expressed shock over the incident as he said that Ndi Nsugbe are peace loving people regretting and condemning the act in its entirety.Â
Dr Nwoye said that efforts are on ground to ensure peace prevails and commended the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim and the Anambra State government for moves they have initiated to restore peace to the troubled area.
He advised the youths from Umueri and Nsugbe to eschew violence and embrace reconciliation.Â
The President General Of Nsugbe Development Union, Dr Chinweze Ezeanwu said he is disheartened by the death and maintained that their sons were killed over nothing.Â
Dr Ezeanwu, therefore, appealed to the state government to expedite action on the peace moves to ensure that justice prevails.Â
Speaking on behalf of Ndi Enugwu Nsugbe, the Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Muolokwu, Chief Micheal Amakom and Nsugbe Youth President, Engr Chidi Obiudu also called on government to bring the perpetrators to book and delineate the boundary to put an end to the ugly lingering dispute.
Members of the age grades of the deceased were not left out in condemning the acts of violence which the dispute has degenerated to.Â
Their spokespersons at the burial ceremonies, Dr Frank Nnaemeka and Mrs Ify Akwasuo described the deceased as peace loving people who do not deserve what happened to them, saying that nothing can be achieved without peace.Â
They said that though government has wadded in into the conflict, they are very still very sad over the incident.Â
Speaking on behalf of Late Igwe Anyansi’s family, Prince Osita Anyansi described the loss as huge one to the family, saying that it has created a big vacuum in the family.Â
The Chief Security Personnel Of Nsugbe vigilante, Chief Onyedika Dibua said that Mr Nweze was one of their security officials who had played a big role to ensure peace prevails between the two villages, calling on the people of the community to remain calm and allow justice to take its course.
