Awka, September 26, 2024: Angel Iruoma, popularly known as Nurse Angel, founder of the “In Our Mind Talk Show” and renowned philanthropist, has made a strong appeal for increased support and empowerment initiatives for persons living with disabilities across Nigeria.
The call was made during a special event held in Umudioka Town Hall, Awka, where Nurse Angel hosted a gathering of individuals with disabilities. The event was aimed at providing aid, compassion, and encouragement to these vulnerable members of society.
Speaking on behalf of Nurse Angel, Mr. Chibuzor Onuko emphasized the growing economic challenges in the country, which have led to increased poverty and hardship for many, forcing some into a life of begging. He reiterated that the support provided by him which included food and essential aid, was a voluntary effort to help relieve the burdens faced by the most vulnerable.
Onuko praised Nurse Angel’s ongoing commitment to philanthropic work, which transcends borders, tribes, and races. Her efforts extend beyond Nigeria, benefiting women, the less privileged, and communities in need in various countries. He also urged individuals with disabilities to stay hopeful and seek help, rather than resorting to despair or considering suicide due to overwhelming challenges.
On his part, a member of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Huzaifa Ahmad Usman expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the physically challenged community. He noted that many in their community had acquired disabilities later in life through circumstances such as immunization complications.
Usman called on the government, particularly Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to support their community by establishing a skill acquisition center which would enable physically challenged individuals to acquire trades and skills, thus reducing their dependence on begging.
The beneficiaries who were drawn from Gararki, Uguoba and Amawbia expressed their profound appreciation for Nurse Angel’s unbiased and heartfelt efforts, which have had a significant and positive impact on their lives.
