Anambra Oil Producing Area Development Commission Bill Passes Second Reading

A bill for a law to establish the Anambra state oil producing area development commission and for related matters have been read for the second reading.

Chief Sponsor of the bill, member representing Ogbaru one constituency Hon. Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe in his submission said the essence of the bill is to foster a lasting solution to the socio- economic difficulties of oil producing areas in the state and to also sustain the rapid development area into a region that is well organised.

” There are a lot of problems associated with oil exploration such as oil spilage. enviromental degredation.

” The aim is to terget the development of oil producing areas. This is to ensure equity and fairness in development.

“Some of the oil producing areasd are highly under developed and should get percentage

” The commission if established, will be in charge of adminisaring the 13% fund giving to the state government from the federal.

“The commission will be in charge of rehabiltation and development of oil producing areas in the state. Other development program that will be detemined by the commission.

” The commission should ensure fair distrubution of developmental projects in the air and ensure judicial utalization of the fund. The arm of th bill is for easy development in oil producing oil. Hon. Igwe Submitted

“Host community are to play major role through providing security to the equipment of imvestors

” This commission will crate an avenue where by host communittee the will not be hostile to investors coming in.

Anambra assembly Speaker Rt. Jon. Somtochukwu Udeze refered the bill to the committee on Petrolum, Mineral resources and committee on environment. The chairmen of the committees will report back to the house in two weeks time.
