Anambra Police Arrest Ex-convict Over Robberies, Recover Weapons

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of the command’s sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down individuals allegedly involved in motorcycle-enabled robberies and related criminal activities across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that operatives recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other incriminating items suspected to be linked to the alleged criminal activities during the operation.

SP. Ikenga said the suspect was currently in police custody as investigations continued to determine the full extent of his alleged involvement and identify other suspected accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, MNIPS, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that individuals found culpable of criminal offences were brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The command urged members of the public, particularly POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.

The police also reiterated the importance of public cooperation in supporting ongoing efforts to combat robbery and other criminal activities across Anambra State.
