Anambra: Police Bust Child Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue Underage Girls

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have dismantled a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating in Aguleri, Anambra State, rescuing 33 underage girls and arresting one female suspect in a major security breakthrough.

The operation, carried out by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, followed a distress alert received through the Command Control Room from relatives of three missing girls abducted in Ebonyi State.

According to police sources, the abducted girls, Divine Mbam (14), Nwagu Favour (15), and Oke Blessing (18) had been missing since September 26, 2025, before credible intelligence revealed their presence at a house located on Emma Pigin Road, Aguleri.

Acting swiftly on the information, police operatives stormed the location and arrested a 37-year-old woman identified as Ifeoma Success Anthony. A total of 33 underage girls were rescued from the premises.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the building was allegedly being used as a hub for child trafficking and prostitution.

Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that
the property is believed to be owned by one Mrs. Ngozi Nnanyelugo, aged 45, who has reportedly gone into hiding and is currently being sought by the police.

The Command confirmed that intensive efforts are underway to apprehend the principal suspect and unravel the full scope of the criminal network, including identifying and arresting other accomplices.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, particularly vulnerable children, the Anambra State Police Command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist ongoing investigations.
