Anambra Speaker Calls On FG To Name A Befitting Institution After Virgie Etiaba

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described Dame Virgie Etiaba as a virtuous woman, renowned teacher, role model, selfless politician and devout Christian.

Felicitating Dame Virgie, the former Governor of Anambra State, as she marks her 83rd birthday, Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that she has made the greatest political history in Nigeria as the first female Governor in the country.

Rt. Hon. Udeze while praying God to continue to bless former Governor Dame Virgie with sound health and longevity, called on the federal government to immortalize the first female Governor in Nigeria by naming a beffiting federal institution after her as a mark of honour for her roles and efforts in repositioning and projecting the image of the country before the international community as a female Governor.

The Speaker revealed that the former Governor is a woman of destiny whom God used immensely to deliver Anambra State from total collapse in 2006 when the political situation of the State was in shambles.

Udeze added that her emergence as the Governor of the State brought peace to the then heated political environment, as she used her God-given female dispositions and motherly care to run an inclusive, calm and godly administration.

The State Number One Lawmaker noted that the glorious administration of former Governor Dame Virgie was evident in so many areas even as she was the first Governor in Nigeria to sign into law the Childs’ Rights Bill aimed at repositioning the future of Nigerian girls among other achievements such as construction of many roads, resurcitation of moribund parastatals, clearance of pending gratuities and pensions in addition to her personal charity programmes for widows and persons living with disabilities in the State.

He enjoined other women to emulate the virtues and attributes of former Governor Dame Virgie by upholding hard work, love, peace and righteousness at all times.
