A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Energy Agency and other related matters has been read for the second time at plenary on Tuesday.
The member representing Ihiala two constituency Hon. Golden Chukwuebuka Iloh who sponsored the bill, while leading the debate said Energy if properly generated, will boost the IGR of the state.
According to Hon. Iloh, the agency can be sustained and that individuals, organizations are already declaring interest to partner with Anambra state.
” This bill seek to create this agency to promote and provide reliable and sustainable distribution of electrification down to rural communities in Anambra state in compliance with Nigeria Electricity Regulations Commission.
“The state and ndi Anambra will benefit if this bill is passed.
Speaking in support of the bill Hon. Augustine Ike (Nnewi North) Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme (Ekwusigo), Chief Whip Hon. Jude Ngobili (Ihiala One), Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua (Njikoka two), Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumber South) and Hon. Chidi Ibemeka (Njikoka one) in their separate submissions highlighted the importance of the bill and why it should be passed into law.
” It is now becoming a difficult task to manage the activities of what happens within the energy sector. There have been cases of vandalism and no body to hold accountable.
” Creating an agency will give government the avenues to hold some to answer when things go wrong.
“This agency will receive information and give feedback. It will also create more jobs.
“Since the headquarters will be in Anambra, it will make the citizens have access to them” The lawmakers stated.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze referred the bill to the house committee on public utilities. He urged the chairman to report back to the house in two weeks time.
