Anambra State Law Revision Committee Submits Report To Govt

The Anambra State Law Revision Committee has submitted its report to the state government through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje.

Angel Network News (ANN) recall that the committee which was set up by
Former Governor Willie Obiano was aimed at ensuring that the masses have easy access to justice.

Receiving the report in Awka, Commissioner Ifemeje described it as a landmark achievement in the justice sector, adding that the review is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s mandate on expeditious dispensation of justice, as most of the laws are obsolete and needed to be in tune with current trends and realities.

Ifemeje informed that she will submit the report to Governor for onward transmission to the Anambra State House of Assembly for “blanket approval”, adding that efforts are on to make Anambra laws available online for easy access.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Anambra State Law Revision Committee, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegwu, represented by a member of the committee and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ifeanyi Obiakor, explained that enormous work involved made their work linger beyond the initial six-month deadline, adding that having successfully reviewed about 300 laws by members of the committee, Anambra State will now have current laws properly updated when approved by the legislature.
