Anambra Students, Pupils Benefit From Educational Support Grant

An illustrious son of Umuchu community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Abraham Otti has charged students to take their studies serious and strive to be the best of what they want in life, promising to sustain the programme.

Speaking during the support grant event,
Chief Otti represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Ikenna Ifemeje, described the event as one of his numerous ways of touching lives and giving back to the society, noting that the grant has been going on in Achalla, Umuchu for some years now but he decided to extend it to the entire Umuchu Community due to his passion to assist in raising giants in all sectors of life through qualitative education.

Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that
a total of 262 students and pupils from different tertiary institutions, secondary schools, and primary schools, received the 2024 Educational Support Grant from
Chief Otti.

The beneficiaries were selected after a rigorous selection examination was conducted for all the interested applicants.

According to the organizers, any student of any tertiary institution whose parents are resident in Umuchu whether an indigene of the community or not was qualified to participate while secondary school and primary school categories were reserved for any student or pupil who attends schools in Umuchu.

After the examination, the Coordinator of the Organizing Committee, Comrade Lotanna Ejezie, revealed that 20 undergraduates, 96 secondary school students and 146 primary school pupils who met the cut-off mark were selected for the grants.

The Educational Support Grant was disbursed to the beneficiaries during a ceremony which took place at Community Primary School, Achalla, Umuchu.

The overall best student in the undergraduates’ category is a fifth year medical student of College of Medicine, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH Enugu, Stanley Kelechi Ezeonyejiaku who went home with the sum of one million naira.

The first runner-up, Benard Somtochukwu Ezeoru, a Law student of University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, went home with the sum of N500,000 while the second runner up, ThankGod Chijioke Ezekwuike, a Law student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka got N200,000.

In the secondary schools’ category, the overall best student is Vivian Ifechukwu Ilo of Holy Name Secondary School, Umuchu and she received the sum of N200, 000, while the second runner-up, Chinwendu Ezenwafor of Shammah International School, Umuchu went home with the sum of N100,000 and the second runner up, Sunday Ikechukwu Iloh of Government Technical College, Umuchu went home with the sum of N50, 000.

In the primary schools’ category, the sum of N150, 000 went to the overall best pupil of Esther Generation Academy, Umuchu, Miss Chikamso Onyemaechi while the first runner-up, Rita Unekwe of Holy Name Nursery and Primary School, Umuchu received N100,000 and the second runner-up, Chinemerem Nnebedum of Primary School Ibughubu, Umuchu received N50,000.

Other selected undergraduates went home with the sum of N50,000 each, while each of benefitting secondary school students went home with N30, 000 and those in primary school went home with N20, 000 each.

In his speech, the President General of Umuchu Community, Chief Charles Ezenwabasili who described the event as a welcome development, applauded Chief Otti for deeming it right to support education and called on the students to make it a challenge by working hard to be the winner in the coming year.

The Chairman, Achalla Umuchu Representative Assembly, Chief Chimezie Ike said the event was the first of its kind from an illustrious son of the community to promote excellence in education, pointing out that the essence of the event was to support the educational needs of intelligent pupils, students and undergraduates in Umuchu community both indigenes and non indigenes, and called on other affluent individuals to emulate the benefactor.

In their votes of thanks, some of the beneficiaries Messrs Ezeonyejiaku, Ilo, Ezeoru, and Unekwe thanked Chief Otti for his magnanimity, and prayed God to bless him immensely even as they promised to study harder.
