Anambra Traditional Medicine Practitioners Trained On Emergency Response

The lawmaker representing Aguata two Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly Dr. Tony Muobike, has called on traditional medicine practitioners to embrace emergency response training in order to improve their capacity to save lives in critical situations.

Hon. Moubike who is the Chairman House Committee on Health, made the call during a training workshop organised for Traditional Medicine Practitioners in partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

The lawmaker explained that the training was designed to create awareness on how to handle emergencies, noting that many lives have been lost due to lack of prompt response to incidents such as snake bites, accidents and sudden health complications.

According to the lawmaker, Anambra state government is committed to improving the quality of life of the people through accessible healthcare services, adding that knowledge and proper training are key components of quality healthcare delivery.

Muobike assured that the programme would be sustained, stressing that the State Assembly would continue to work with the executive arm of government to ensure that Anambra remains a leading state in healthcare delivery

The Coordinator of Anambra State Traditional Medicine Practitioners, Mr. Daniel Ekene-Ejie, while speaking during the workshop, noted that native doctors contribute to saving lives in many ways and therefore require adequate training to enhance their effectiveness.

Ekene-Ejie urged practitioners to comply with state laws guiding traditional medicine practice and to channel their concerns through appropriate authorities.

Also speaking, the Training Officer of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch, Mrs. Nkechi Nnaji, described first aid and emergency response as critical in stabilising victims during unforeseen circumstances before professional medical attention is obtained.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the the training, attracted Traditional Medicine Practitioners from different parts of the state, where they were exposed to various emergency response techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to enable them provide immediate assistance before victims are taken to hospitals for further medical care.
