Anambra Traditional Ruler Donates Palace To Catholic Church

HRM. Igwe Peter Anugwu, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has officially handed over his official palace compound, including its buildings, to the Pallotttine Christian community, a religious body from the Roman Catholic Church.

Speaking during the donation, the traditional ruler said the two-story building, which includes about 10 sitting rooms, over 18 standard rooms, and a basement, was constructed by a foreign company more than 44 years ago.

Igwe Anugwu explained that his decision to gift the entire palace, with the exception of the building where he resides, is a gesture of gratitude to God, who has blessed him with prosperity. He emphasized that he invited fellow traditional rulers, government representatives, and a few others to witness the event to ensure it is properly documented while he is alive.

Angel Network News (ANN) recall that few years ago the traditional ruler gave the Pallottines some portions of land in the community and work is currently on going at the site.

In his remarks, the Anambra State Deputy Governor and an indigen of the community Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim described the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu as an institution and a wise father who is never hesitant to offer guidance when necessary.

Dr. Ibezim expressed optimism that the Pallottine Christian community would honour this gesture and reciprocate. He also thanked the Christian community from Rome for designating the palace into a non-denominational worship center, emphasizing that the ongoing spiritual battle is between Christians and idol worshippers, while also thanking Igwe Mbaukwu for cementing his legacy in history.

The Pallottine Superior General assured that the palace would serve as a non-denominational space for souls to be won to God. The priest prayed for God’s strength and guidance for Igwe Mbaukwu as he continues to serve as the traditional ruler of the community.

ANN gathered that the Pallottine Christian community whose headquarters is situated in Rome is basically known for training special Catholic priests as well as engaging in human capital development.
