Umuada Umuona in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state have distributed exercise books to schools in the community.
ANN reports that Saint Maria Gorrati Catholic Primary and Nursery School, Saint Joseph High School and Further Hope Nursery and Primary School all in Umuona benefited.
Distributing the exercise books to the students, the President of Umuada Umuona, Mrs Bridget Umeh said they embarked on the journey to add to the free education policy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo
” This is part of efforts to promote quality teaching and learning amongst the youths especially in the rural areas” the president said
Mrs Umeh noted that the economic situation facing the country has led many out of school due to lack of finance and materials adding that with the Governor’s free education and provision of books, it will go a long way to ease the pains of the parents and further enhance education, calling on the students to work hard to acquire quality education .
The President-General of the Community, Chief Keneth Okoli said the mission embarked upon by the women is in line with the present administration’s policy towards ensuring that no one is left behind in acquiring education which he noted will bring about brighter future for all, calling on parents to ensure that all their wards go to school as well to back it with morals and discipline.
In their separate speeches two executive members of the group Mrs Obioma Nwocha and Mrs Benedeth Onyekaozulu extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for what he is doing in the education sector more especially in offsetting school fees and donation to mission schools in the state, adding that they donated the exercise books to ease the burden of parents.
While expressing happiness over the gesture , the Parish Priest of Saint Maria Gorrati Catholic Church, Umuona, Reverend Father Anthony Ezeoke commended the women describing their mission as apt which should be emulated by other affluent members of the society to bring education to the door steps of the people.
Contributing, the Headmistress of Maria Gorrati School, Mrs Nneka Ugwumba and Mr Norbert Anyaboro of Saint Joseph High School on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked Umuada Umuona for their gesture describing it as the first of its kind.
