The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has reiterated that the State Government will not tolerate any form of sexual abuse involving minors.
The Commissioner made this known while handling a case involving the alleged statutory sexual abuse of a minor, which resulted in the pregnancy of a female pupil of Royal Academy School, Isiagu, Awka South Local Government Area.
When the victim’s mother appealed for the suspect’s release and requested that the matter be settled out of court, the Commissioner kicked against the appeal, insisting that the law must take its course.
Following counselling rendered to all parties, the Commissioner warned against a recurrence of such acts, describing the abuse of minors as unacceptable.
Onyekesi reaffirmed that the Anambra State Government under Professor Chukwuma Soludo remains committed to protecting every child and ensuring that justice is served.
