ANSEC Approves Third Batch Of 1Youth 2Skills, Extends Urban Renewal To Upper Iweka

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the commencement of the selection, placement and training of the third batch of beneficiaries under the One Youth, Two Skills (1Youth 2Skills) entrepreneurship programme.

The approval was granted at the Council’s 17th meeting for 2026, held at the Light House, Awka, on Monday, November 2, as part of the implementation of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s Solution 2.0 Agenda.

The Ministry of Youth Development is expected to announce the eligibility criteria and application procedures for interested applicants in due course.

The 1Youth 2Skills programme has so far recorded two completed batches, with over 13,000 Anambra youths trained, empowered and mentored across more than 60 skill areas.

According to the state government, over 5,000 beneficiaries have become confirmed millionaires and are now contributing to the empowerment of other young people through the programme’s pay-it-forward model.

The initiative is a flagship youth empowerment programme of the Soludo administration designed to equip young people with practical skills, promote entrepreneurship and encourage financial independence.

In another major decision, ANSEC approved the extension of the state’s urban regeneration programme to Upper Iweka, Onitsha, a major entry point into Anambra State.

The proposed regeneration project is expected to transform the area’s aesthetics, functionality and land use through comprehensive remodelling, including the development of parks and other public spaces.

The government said the project would align Upper Iweka with its vision of creating a smart, livable and prosperous homeland, adding that a detailed master plan and design would be unveiled soon.

Council also directed the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) to issue a one-month notice to owners of abandoned vehicles obstructing roads across the state.

At the expiration of the notice, vehicles not removed by their owners will be impounded, removed and scrapped by the government.

The measure, according to the government, is aimed at eliminating road hazards, improving traffic flow and enhancing the safety and appearance of public roads.

The government has consequently urged owners of abandoned vehicles to remove them before the expiration of the notice to avoid forfeiture.
