APC Calls for Probe of Soludo Over Alleged “Cash for Votes” Pledge

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force to launch investigations into Anambra Governor Charles Soludo over his controversial pledge of cash rewards to wards won by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In a statement issued Tuesday, the APC accused Soludo of endorsing electoral inducements, a move they say risks undermining the integrity of elections. They cited his public remark: “I promise a cash incentive for every ward won” as evidence of wrongdoing.

Just days ago, Soludo’s pledge — reportedly to provide money to every ward his party secured — had stirred debate and criticism.

The APC’s call represents a rare crack in party alignments, given that APC is not Soludo’s political base. Analysts say the demand for investigation signals heightened sensitivity over vote buying ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The onus is now on INEC and the police to determine whether Governor Soludo’s statements breached Nigeria’s electoral laws and warrant prosecution.
