Arsenal Edge Closer to EPL Crown After Burnley Showdown

Arsenal moved to the brink of a first Premier League title since 2004 with a 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday.

Kai Havertz headed home a Bukayo Saka corner in the first half to secure the three points at the Emirates Stadium, keeping the Gunners five points clear of Manchester City with one match remaining.

The result means Pep Guardiola’s side must beat Bournemouth on Tuesday to keep the title race alive, otherwise Arsenal will be crowned champions without kicking another ball this season.

Havertz replaced Viktor Gyokeres in Mikel Arteta’s surprise starting lineup and rose highest to convert Saka’s delivery, giving Arsenal a deserved lead.

The German forward was fortunate to escape a red card in the second half after a reckless lunge on Burnley’s Lesley Ugochukwu. VAR reviewed the studs-up challenge but upheld the referee’s yellow card.

Arsenal’s win maintains their strong position at the top of the table as they close in on ending Manchester City’s dominance.

The Gunners last lifted the Premier League trophy in 2004 under Arsene Wenger.
