The Managing Director (MD) and Chief executive Officer (CEO) of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA)
Mr. Mike Ozoemena has urged ndi Anambra to always drop their waste appropriately and on time.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Ozoemena while speaking in an interview in his office on Thursday said waste should be dropped from 5:pm to 6:am in order for the agency to carry it before 10:am.
” The government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has done enough by providing litter base for people to drop their waste.
” Everyone should have waste bin in their house and it should be kept until the agency or waste carrier’s comes to carry it.
“Tie your waste properly before bringing it out. Don’t empty it.
” Other parts of the world, people have upto three waste bins at home. They put waste that can recycled separately from those that can decompose.
” Waste is not flawer and should not be littered on the streets.
” Some people waite until the waste carrier’s must have gone before they will despose it on the street that has already been swept.
” Am pleading to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to allow us have a time frame. So that from 5:pm to 6:am everyone should drop their waste, then we carry them before 10: am, this will make the town clean till evening.
” Without having a time frame, anytime you pass the streets, you will still see people disposing waste.
” With the cost of diesel, we cant be going to evacuate waste more than once a day. Government cannot afford that and if you send the cost back to the people, it will be unbearable.
” Some people will see a litter point just some poles away but they won’t do the right thing.
“Put your waste in designated place in order to make our job easier. Lets work together and make Anambra State the cleanest.
“Waste is wealth. The plastic, tins, cartoons can be recycled if keep properly. Even the decomposing waste can be used for manure.
“Sort your waste and you wont be begging someone to come and pick it for free because waste is wealth.
” Plastic takes upto four hundred years to decompose. All we need to do with it is recycle it. The things you dont need, lets recycle them. If not, re-use it.
” The state should be clean because ndi Anambra State are known to be clean’.
The ASWAMA MD frowned on those dumping refuse on drinages, urging them to stop.
“Despising of waste on drinages is an eye-sore. As it goes away, it ends up somewhere and blocks movement of water which affects and spoils the road.
” This is the reason why environment is among the five pillars of Governor Chukwuma Soludo because he is doesn’t joke with it.
“Epidemic can come from environmental degradation. It can also cause flooding which is why Anambra is erosion prone’.
Speaking on awareness campaign, Mr. Ozoemena revealed that their is collaboration with Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in other for it to be thought in schools for children to know proper waste management disposal.
