Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is 90 years old and said he possesses evidence he is prepared to present in court.
The African Democratic Congress presidential candidate for 2027 made the allegation in an interview with BBC Hausa while responding to questions about his own age and fitness to contest the next election.
“You went and voted for someone who is 80, I mean 90 years old. How old is President Bola, 90?” Atiku said.
He added: “You have a President who is 90 years old now and sick and I am healthy and strong. So why won’t I make myself available to serve my country?
“I have evidence that President Tinubu is 90 years old and I will present it in court.”
Atiku, who would be approaching 80 by the 2027 vote, rejected concerns that his age could hinder his ability to govern. He presented himself as experienced and physically capable, citing his past service as vice-president from 1999 to 2007 and previous presidential bids.
He also addressed insecurity, blaming government shortcomings in defence and policing, and pledged to tackle the problem within one year if elected.
