Atiku Pledges to Step Aside If Younger Candidate Wins ADC Presidential Ticket

Former Vice President and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Atiku Abubakar, has vowed to “step down” from the race for the Labour Party’s 2027 presidential ticket if a younger aspirant secures the party’s nomination.

In a recent interview, Atiku stated, “If a younger aspirant emerges during the primaries, I will gracefully step aside.” The comment underscores his willingness to cede his ambition for generational renewal within the party.

This pledge follows mounting pressure from supporters calling for fresh faces and leadership. It also signals shifting attitudes toward age and representation in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Atiku served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo and has since been a recurring contender in national elections. His public commitment introduces fresh uncertainty into the 2027 race dynamics.
