Awka Educational Zone Wins the Under-12 State Schools Sports Finals Competition 2025 at Awka

The 2025 State Schools Sports Finals of Under-12 boys and girls has ended with Awka Educational Zone emerging the overall champions with 9 Gold, 11 Silver and 6 Bronze medals, while Onitsha Zone took the second position with 5 Gold, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze, and Aguata Zone came third with 5 Gold, and 1 Silver.

The event, organised by a collaboration of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka and the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC under the 2021 SUBEB/UBEC Intervention Sports Competition held at Awka City Stadium, featured both track, field and indoor events, such as football, relay races, ncho, scrabble, and chess aimed at providing a veritable platform for a total development of learners from the 21 Local Government Areas of the State with a view to promote sporting spirit among them.

The State Commissioner for Education Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in a remark, described sports as one of the strongest domains of learning and extolled the State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR for his vision and targeted drive towards revitalising all sectors of the State economy which is steadily projecting Anambra State on the global map.

Presenting her address, the Executive Chairman, ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi described the Finals as a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and youthful energy which are in line with Mr. Governor’s vision of raising well-rounded children that are intellectually sound, morally upright and physically strong.

“I want to appreciate Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s bold vision for ‘One Government and One Agenda’, which has continued to empower every sector including the basic education. I also want to appreciate UBEC for their continued collaboration and support which made the sporting intervention possible”, she said.

Continuing, Dr. Nwadinobi assured of the commitment of ASUBEB and UBEC in providing an all round education for learners in Anambra State, pointing out that the ASUBEB/UBEC Intervention Sports Competition is an opportunity to shop for budding talents in sports.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Anambra State Sports Commission, Hon. Patrick Onyedum appreciated the ASUBEB Chairman and her Board Members for implementing the positive vision of the State government and appealed to the athletes to be disciplined and maintain the spirit of sportsmanship in the competition.

High point of the event was the decoration of the winners of the various categories with their medals.
