Ayra Starr Discloses ‘Complicated’ Surgery, Assures Fans of Recovery

Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has revealed she underwent major surgery several days ago, explaining a more complicated recovery than expected while apologising to fans for her reduced social media presence.

The artist, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, shared the update via Instagram Story on Thursday. “Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected,” she wrote.

She added that she simply needed rest before returning: “I just need a bit of rest, and I’ll be back!!! Starrgirl is coming so soooon. I need everyone out there spreading the word, tell your friends, your family, your neighbours!!! Order Starrgirl ASAP!!! Love you guys.”

In a separate post, Starr encouraged supporters to pre-order the upcoming project and noted she was signing her first vinyl and CD inserts. “Hey Mobstarrs. I’m signing my first vinyl and CD inserts. Go to shop.ayrastarr.com. Go get your vinyl and your signed CDs,” she said.

The singer, known for hits including “Rush” and “Bloody Samaritan,” did not provide details about the nature of the surgery or her medical condition. Fans, known as Mobstarrs, had noted her limited online activity in recent days before the disclosure.

Starr’s announcement comes amid anticipation for her new material and follows her recent appearance in the trailer for the Hollywood film Children of Blood and Bone.
