Barcelona Thrash Feyenoord 5-1 in Champions League Opener

Barcelona opened their UEFA Champions League campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Feyenoord on Tuesday, as Raphinha scored twice and new striker Gabriel Jesus netted on his debut.

Raphinha opened the scoring in the third minute with a left-footed finish. Karim Adeyemi doubled the lead in the 22nd minute before Raphinha added his second just after the hour mark in the 57th minute.

Lamine Yamal made it 4-0 in the 77th minute with a free-kick, and Jesus headed home from a Yamal cross in the 85th minute to complete the scoring for the hosts.

Feyenoord’s only reply came from substitute Sem Steijn in the 82nd minute.

Barcelona controlled the match with 71 percent possession and created far more chances, registering nine shots on target to Feyenoord’s three. The Spanish side’s expected goals stood at 1.55 compared with 0.52 for the Dutch visitors.

The result leaves Barcelona with three points from their opening League Phase fixture.
