Billionaires Are Planning To Become Immortal?

Billionaires could be creating technology that would make them immortal.

Just like in the comics or some sort of science-fiction movie, billionaires could be compounding their massive wealth to become immortal. While that sounds like it could be a purely farfetched idea, it’s not exactly out of the realm of possibility. Christopher Wareham, a bioethicist at Utrecht University, stated, “Suppose, for example, we had a kind of vaccine for the pandemic of age…The longer you’re around, the more your wealth compounds, and the wealthier you are, the more political influence you have.”

We understand that the idea of someone being able to cheat death and turn back time is something that is not going to happen in our lifetime, but we could be wrong. Jeff Bezos is one of the rare billionaires in the world, and he has a lab called Altos Lab, which specifically is working on technology to make people a bit more immortal. The entire goal of this lab is to materialize “cellular rejuvenation programming” and find a way to “reverse” disease so that it can help people around the world.

That is certainly a philanthropist mindset, but what happens when the technology gets to a point where it can reverse aging? Only the richest people would be able to afford such a treatment, and that is where being a billionaire comes into play when wanting to afford technology used to make one immortal. They have all the money in the world, so whatever miracle treatment was viable, we would bet they would do everything in their power to get it.

The Fountain of Youth has always been a story of myth, but that does not mean that scientists couldn’t figure out a way to create some sort of elixir that allows the person drinking it to be rejuvenated in some way. Oddly enough, there is one billionaire not on board with becoming immortal. Elon Musk, SpaceX and Twitter CEO stated, “It is important for us to die because most of the time people don’t change their mind, they just die.”

We are not sure if Elon Musk will change his mind if science gets to the point of providing some sort of way to live longer, but billionaires would be the only people who could afford this tech that would make them immortal. Everyone else would only dream of such things and would sit and watch the older generation get richer and live longer. This is a dystopian type of existence to think about, but science fiction has taught us that some things are not entirely out of reach in our lifetime.

Billionaires becoming immortal might be on the same timeline as creating fusion energy that is sustainable. Though scientists hope to have one facility up and running by 2025, that does not mean the whole world would be powered by this energy with one facility. There could be this immortality technology currently being worked on, but we will likely not see it become a viable option for another 40 years.

This is just wild speculation at this point, but it would be amazing to see if billionaires could put their money together to find a way to help the world become a bit more immortal. Would that happen? Likely not, but it is something fun to think about.
